Amazon has created one of the most advanced fulfillment networks in the world, and businesses from big box companies to savvy entrepreneurs are benefiting from their expertise. With FBA - Fulfillment by Amazon, your products are stored, picked, packed and shipped from one of the company's many fulfillment centers. Surveys have shown that the people using the FBA service have reported a 73% increase in sales (2013), up 20% from past sales.
In order for "FBA" to work, however sellers need to comply with Amazon's packing and labeling requirements; if the requirements aren't met, Amazon will need to address the issue once the shipment is received and sellers will face "unplanned services" fees (started May 21, 2013). The unplanned services fee will more than likely come into play if, during the original order, you don't choose a planned service (an example would be the FBA label service). Unplanned services include poly bagging, labeling, taping, etc., to prepare the products for efficient and safe storage and delivery.
One of the most frequently violated FBA requirements is poly bagging - suffocation warning bags that are required for shipping items like toys, plush, baby products, etc.
Suffocation warning bags are clear poly bags with a suffocation warning visibly printed on them, available in a variety of sizes, in self seal and open ended options. Theses bags clearly alert end users of potential dangers to young children. Warning messages are available in most languages with messages that warn users to keep them away from children and to not use them in playpens, carriages, beds or cribs. The thin film that makes up the bags can cling to the mouth and nose, preventing breathing. The suffocation warning messages need to be placed in a visible location, in a legible font size, for the dimensions of the bag.
Poly bags used to protect merchandise need to meet the following requirements:
• Must be transparent
• Must be at least 1.5 mi. in thickness
• Poly bags with 5 inch opening or greater are must include a suffocation warning.
• Must include a physical barcode or product label that's scannable (through the bag) or have a product label on the exterior of the bag.
• Must be completely sealed.
• Can't protrude over 3" past the dimensions of the merchandise.
